FF Thompson Clinical Learning Hub

One launchpad for orientation phases, preceptor resources, refreshers, and high-value tools (MTP simulation, ECG generator, Power Minutes, ABG game, and focused learning modules). Use this page to track what’s live today and what’s arriving next.

Phase LMS & Web Modules

Each phase is available as a browser-based review module and as a SCORM 1.2 package for LMS testing. Phase 1 and Phase 2 are Thompson-wide clinical orientation and should be completed once when the nurse starts at Thompson. Phase 3 and Phase 4 are now packaged separately by unit so ICU, ED, Med/Surg, and OB orientations can be assigned independently when a nurse enters or cross-trains to that area.

Phase 1 – Foundations Chapters 01-03; unit systems, safety, mobility, and general assessment. Open web module Download SCORM zip
Phase 2 – Core Practice Chapters 04-12; shared body-system patterns, escalation language, and core patient-care routines. Open web module Download SCORM zip
Phase 3 – ICU Specialty Chapters 13-18; sepsis, pain, emergencies, post-op care, and withdrawal for ICU scope. Open web module Download SCORM zip
Phase 3 – ED Specialty Chapters 13-18; rapid sorting, reassessment, emergencies, sepsis, pain, and safe disposition handoff. Open web module Download SCORM zip
Phase 3 – Med/Surg Specialty Chapters 13-18; early deterioration, escalation, post-op care, pain, withdrawal, and transfer readiness. Open web module Download SCORM zip
Phase 3 – OB Specialty Chapters 13-18; maternal deterioration, emergency escalation, pain, post-op recovery, and safety supports. Open web module Download SCORM zip
Phase 4 – ICU Integration Chapters 19-21; ICU IV access, blood products, and high-alert medication safety. Open web module Download SCORM zip
Phase 4 – ED Integration Chapters 19-21; ED access, transfusion, urgent medications, resuscitation handoff, and transfer readiness. Open web module Download SCORM zip
Phase 4 – Med/Surg Integration Chapters 19-21; Med/Surg access, transfusion, medication safety, adverse-effect recognition, and escalation. Open web module Download SCORM zip
Phase 4 – OB Integration Chapters 19-21; OB access, blood products, medication safety, maternal warning signs, and family-centered handoff. Open web module Download SCORM zip

The modules now include phase completion, readiness checks, preceptor signoff support, and a downloadable audit report. These are review copies until Thompson SME review and the competency checklist decision are complete; bedside competency signoff still follows the approved Thompson process.

Phase Roadmap

Phase 1 – Foundations All clinical orientees; Thompson systems, EMR immersion, infection prevention, communication standards, and safety habits. Less-experienced nurses get the scaffold; experienced nurses can move quickly.
Phase 2 – Core Practice Shared clinical core; body-system assessment, escalation, and patient-care flow. Unit-specific system validation moves into the first Phase 3 specialty module.
Phase 3 – Specialty Transition Assigned by unit after the shared core; ICU, ED, Med/Surg, and OB versions cover deterioration, sepsis, emergency response, post-op risk, pain, and withdrawal from that unit's scope.
Phase 4 – Specialty Integration Assigned by unit before final sign-off; ICU, ED, Med/Surg, and OB versions cover IV access, blood products, medication safety, and near-independent practice expectations.

Current Status & Next Focus

  • Orientation status – the first full Thompson policy-alignment pass is complete across all 21 preceptor guides, the orientee handbook, and the combined preceptor guidebook.
  • QA status – DOCX integrity checks and visual render checks were completed on May 29, 2026; no unresolved placeholders were found in the revised guide/handbook set.
  • Checklist status – the RN Orientation Checklist ICU is unchanged for now; a separate alignment review is ready for manager/educator/preceptor discussion.
  • Unit document status – ICU, ED, and Med/Surg root handbooks/guidebooks are available with their unit competency checklists; OB still needs the final checklist before its root document pair is rebuilt from the stronger template.
  • Next focus – SME review and sign-off, with early attention to Phase 1 expectations and the higher-risk workflow chapters: respiratory, neuro, emergency response, IV access, and medication administration.
  • Phase LMS packages – Phase 1-2 are shared Thompson clinical-core packages completed once; Phase 3-4 are now separate ICU, ED, Med/Surg, and OB packages for LMS assignment by unit, with targeted companion links to quick references, Power Minutes, simulations, and cross-training resources where those tools deepen the bedside skill.
  • ECG site status – the telemetry/ECG teaching tools remain active; learning-module refinements are still planned.
  • Live learning tools – MTP tabletop simulation, Power Minutes, and the ABG game are active and available now.
